The Chapman Stick, reminiscent of a futuristic instrument, offers a piano-like range and playability, combining the expressiveness and tone of a guitar-bass hybrid. The stick is held vertically and played with both hands using a technique known as tapping.

Unlike plucking or picking, tapping involves quickly pressing the strings against the frets to produce notes. This unique invention has a distinctive, harmonically rich sound, capable of creating percussive staccato strokes, sparkling chords, and buttery-smooth melodies.

The Evolution 10-String Stick lets you experience this truly astonishing sound in virtual space, meticulously sampled to recreate all the capabilities of the original instrument.

The standard model features ten strings, divided into five bass and five bass strings, providing a sonic range of over five octaves. We sampled each string individually, across the instrument’s expansive fretboard. The Evolution 10 String Stick automatically detects the strings and frets used, based on adjustable positions for both hands. You can also select the split point between the high and low frequencies on the keyboard. By automating these factors, playing a MIDI keyboard is incredibly easy while maintaining a natural and authentic sound.

We developed the library in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company, one of the most respected recording studios in Utah. Guy Randle, owner and engineer at Rosewood Recording Company, used analog audio equipment to skillfully shape and highlight the rich tonal qualities of the instrument. The Evolution 10 String Stick includes both the recorded signal and the enhanced signal, which can be mixed to suit your tastes.
